Dates, kick-off times and host cities – here’s the full schedule for AFCON 2021.
The tournament, originally scheduled to be played in June and July 2021, is being held in Cameroon between January 9 and February 6 2022, with Sky Sports showing all 52 games live.
Twenty-four teams are taking part. The action kicked off with hosts Cameroon beating Burkina Faso in Yaounde, and will culminate in the final on February 6 at the same Olembe Stadium.
Monday at AFCON
There are two more fascinating last-16 ties on Monday as Guinea take on Gambia at the Kouekong Stadium, with the game kicking off at 4pm, before Cameroon face Comoros at the Olembe Stadium in the 7pm clash – with both games live on Sky Sports!
First up, though, we see two West African sides go head to head for a place in the last eight as unbeaten Gambia look to get past Naby Keita’s Guinea, who finished the group phase as runners up behind Senegal.
Meanwhile, later on Monday evening, Comoros have been forced to start an outfield player in goal for their Africa Cup of Nations last 16 clash against hosts Cameroon on Monday, as their three goalkeepers are all absent.
No 1 Salim Ben Boina is missing through injury after being carried off on a stretcher in the win over Ghana, while his understudies, Moyadh Ousseini and Ali Ahamada, have tested positive for Covid.
Cameroon will therefore start the tie as big favourites to progress after an unbeaten group-phase campaign, however, the five-time winners would be foolish to underestimate their opponents on Monday.
Comoros surprised everyone by beating Ghana 3-2 in their final Group C contest on Tuesday to ensure they qualified for the knockout phase as one of the four best third-placed sides.
